Rainbow Early Childhood Centre is made up of two houses - 'The Little House' for our younger children and 'The Big House' - a separate building and dedicated space for older children.
little house
The Little House is a home away from home for our littlest people. This area was lovingly renovated and was blessed for opening in January 2020. The furnishings and decor intend to provide a homely atmosphere. Infants and toddlers can potter, read and play in their own time, and individual rhythms and routines are observed.
The Little House has a cosy sleeproom with cots and mattresses. The bathroom has changing facilities and a wharepaku for children who are embarking on their toilet learning stage.
The Little House has its own outside area. A large area of sand, greenery and steps offer challenges and a nature based sanctuary for our wee ones.
Our Little House environment provides care for children up until the age of 2-3 years. We promote child led transitions to the cottage side, when the child is showing they are ready to move on.
big house
The Big House has large indoor and outdoor areas with a variety of facilities for our older children.
The outside area of the Big House has a variety of areas to encourage physical and imaginative play. We use loose parts to promote creativity and have moveable gross motor equipment to allow children to design their own challenges.
Inside at The Big House we have an eating area, along with various spaces for play. These include a quiet room, block/construction room and art area.
There is a connecting outside area between the two houses, allowing interaction between the older and younger tamariki.
